Audio Plugin Player App Reviews
not much to say, really.. it just works! :) Very versatile too, as the description shows.. so that means you can also feed it (MIDI) from the Macs IAC Bus, e.g. from your sequencer host, and of course route its audio via Soundflower back into the sequencer :)
This is a must-have for people who work with virtual instruments. Now I dont have to launch Cubase every time just to check plug-in version numbers, or if I want to have a quick play or test. Great app, does what it says! Great job.
Although I paid for this, it emits a burst of white noise every now and then. This is typical of an unpaid demo for audio applications, done so you can try it out, and then pay to get a key to remove the white noise. Either this is an error, or its a bait and switch. Either way, its not usable as it is.
GREAT application for testing AU and VST plugins on a Mac! The best of it is that You can use it as standalone application - no DAW is necessary!!! Good luck Daniel Nigrin! Im waiting for Your new apps! regards from Poland Raphael
Audio Plugin Player
No sound. None at AU plugin, VST. Requires eLicenser, although it is worth the latest version. In short, nothing bought!
Defective
Can’t tell about the “records”, but defective for sure. Needs urgent updates in order to fix several compatibility issues.
Nice app! Simple, clean and fast, and does what its supposed to. Like that it has multiple input modes (keyboard, MIDI, mouse). Buy it you wont be sorry!
Audio Plugin Player, Great little tool!
What a great idea, and exactly what I needed to play/test my plug-ins. Highly recommend.
Ive been looking for something like this for a while. Its perfect for instruments like Stylus RMX that dont have a stand alone mode. Now I can preview REX loops in Stylus without having to launch Pro Tools. Great!
"Defective Records"
Should be "Defective Audio Plugin Player". Dosent load VST plugins on my Intel iMac. I want a refund.
Ive wanted a plugin player with tempo that loads without choking on my 50+ existing plugins for awhile now, and here it is. Lets hope it doesnt grow too fast…
Works as advertised under Lion (10.7.4) without any problems. Runs Pianoteq 4 and Zebralette plugins, including their GUIs and their own add ons & presets. Good value.
Fortunately, this does what it says, but theres a couple things that really bother me with using this. 1. Theres no way to save your plugin folder, so it requires navigating to your components folder and then choosing the plugin this way each time. Luckily I have Default Folder X installed, so I can save my component folder as a favorite, but really, there should be a drop down list to select the plugin just like any other host. 2. If your MIDI controller was not connected, or powered on when the program was launched, then you will need to close and reopen the app before it will recognize the MIDI controller. Ive given it 4 stars which Ill change to 5 stars if #1 on my list is changed. Overall, I would reccommend this for anyone that wants to use a plugin, and opening a recording program (Logic, Reaper, Live, Protools, etc…) is just overkill. I should also add that if you are doing tutorials, this works great. When clicking off screen, the plugin window will remain open.
Awesome update to a great little app! Really useful for quick and dirty use of plugins (both instruments and effects). Nice to see the developer still updating this too, based on user feedback!
I have sevral plugins that do NOT have a stand alone mode and this app runs them all perfectly. Its VERY flexible and allows the plugins to even operate as part of my modular synth setup when recording Patching Chaos. (i.e. as an external synth being controlled by custom Reaktor code. Its controlled by Reaktor and the audio is brought back in to Reaktor.) Very nice product! At this price, its a no brainer!
I bought this as an alternative to using mainstage as an AU host (with soundflower to route) and apply room correction software to my default audio outputs. Mainstage is heavy, and a full DAW is even worse. (Another option is to use AULab from Apple, but that requires a full install of Xcode.) I was pretty excited to find something that met my needs. Except it doesnt: Doesnt support 64 AU/VST plugins. Crashes on loading the *only* plugin that I want this for (IK ARC2,) actually it crashes on about half of my third party plugins. Doesnt have an Audio Unit browser (was it installed system-wide, in my profile, in the all-users profile … annoying.)
No Longer works
After most recent update the app crashes every time I try to load it. Please fix it!
Keeps crashing
Loading certain plugins will crash this program. I dont know why this has not been fixed yet. I keep waiting for an update.
This app is nice to get a plugin up and running without launching my DAW when I want to fool around. One very helpful feature request would be a list of all current plugins, instead of me locating each one I want to launch.
The interface doesn’t allow you to play the entire 88 note scale. The clock doesn’t send consistently to any app that has it’s own sequencer or arp. I would like a refund :/
